  1. Period (".") Right Arrow A.
  2. Remove leading zeros from Result.
    If Result > 0, Result Right Arrow A.
    Otherwise, zero ("0") Right Arrow A.
  3. Concatenate (A, ".") Right Arrow A.
  4. Remove trailing zeros from Result.
    Concatenate (A, Result) Right Arrow A.
  5. Concatenate (A, "E") Right Arrow A.
  6. Concatenate (A, "-") Right Arrow A.
  7. Remove leading zeros from Result.
    Concatenate (A, Result) Right Arrow A.
  8. Convert A to a numeric data value, using the algorithm defined in Section 3.2.4.2 of MDC/28.
    Place A Right Arrow Result.
