3.3.3 Characters and the Empty String

chars denotes a sequence of zero or more characters.

noncommachars denotes a sequence of zero or more characters, excluding the comma character.

longchars denotes a sequence of zero or more characters.

emptystring denotes an M[UMPS] empty string.

tab denotes a tab character.

linend denotes an M[UMPS] eol.

mnemonichar denotes an ampersand character.
