3.2.8 Functions function

$N[EXT]( glvn )

returns an integer which is a subscript value. Only subscripted forms of lvn and gvn are permitted. Let lvn or gvn be of the form Name(s1, s2, ..., sn) where sn has an integer value ≥ –1. If it exists, the integer value t is returned, where:

  1. t is greater than sn, and
  2. t is the lowest number such that $D(Name(s1, s2, ..., sn–1, t) is not zero.

If such a t does not exist, –1 is returned. It is an error if sn has a noninteger value or an integer value less than –1.
