Introduced in the 1995 ANSI M[UMPS] language standard.

This structured system variable provides information about the system specific parameters that are currently active for the M[UMPS] system.

Write !,"The default character set is"
Write ^$System($SYstem,"CHARACTER")

This node will specify the name of the character set to be used for the interpretation of all system-wide name information (names of syntactic elements).

Approved for addition in a future M[UMPS] language standard.

^$System(system,"COLLATE") will specify the name of the collation algorithm to be used for sorting system structures (routine directory, global variable directory, structured system variables).
