  1. Result Right Arrow A.
    Check to see that A is at least a 2-tuple (that is, that the variable is subscripted).
    If not, generate an execution trap.
  2. Find the next higher subscript of the variable named in A and place into Result.
    If no higher subscript exists, place –1 into Result.
